Preparation Guidelines for Your Huachuma Ceremony

Below are some suggestions you might consider in preparation for your ceremony with Huachuma:

  • Self-Care: create an intention to focus on authentic self-nourishment—get plenty of rest and leisure where and when you can, eat delicious, nutritious foods, be around good vibes and caring people, get fresh air.  These activities not only make us feel our best on the day-to-day, but specific to our medicine work preparation, it will help the body feel a trusting connection to our intentions, and it will feel more open to receive the work before us no matter how fearful or nervous we may be about the upcoming process.  Also, work to steer clear of erratic energetic activities and spaces—reduce your exposure to chaotic environments and people as much as you can, and reduce the time spent watching television, videos, and audio information, for although information can be helpful it can also cause a great deal of mental chatter and overstimulation which may become an impediment to your work.
  • Journal: I find it extremely helpful to jot down where I find myself today.  Dare to let yourself go on a “stream of consciousness” writing journey, and allow what comes up to surprise you.  This is a great way to help your intention to more clearly communicate to you.
  • Observe a dieta anywhere from 7 – 10 days prior to ceremony: More info below

OBSERVING A PREPARATORY “DIETA” for Huachuma:

      STEER CLEAR OF…

  • ALL processed foods, and avoid pre-made foods as much as possible
  • ALL SUGAR (raw honey and maple syrup in moderation okay)
  • ALL SALT (as it is a RETAINER)
  • Dairy
  • Red meat, pork
  • FRIED foods
  • Caffeine/stimulants, alcohol, and cannabis (unless you’re taking CBD for a specific situation)
  • Also, reduce meat intake to wild caught, fresh fish, and organic, free-range chicken (eaten sparingly) if it calls to you, or consider removing meat altogether for this short period, if you can.
  • And to observe the dieta to its full effect: also cut out sexual activity, including self-pleasuring
  • Finally, see if you can finish eating for the day at least 3 hours before going to bed

TO ENHANCE CLEANSING AND DETOXIFICATION:

3 – 7 days prior to our weekend, ADD an activated charcoal “lemonade”

You can easily make your own, or purchase one made with raw honey or maple syrup, and fresh juice.  Take this ideally in the evening on its own (as late as a few hours before bed)—drinking it slowly so as not to cause discomfort.  This will vamp up the body’s ability to cleanse, release, detox toxic contaminants in the blood stream, lymph, organ systems, which in turn will help detox the mind and emotional bodies via a chakra system attunement (as it is intimately tied to the endocrine system—hormones/emotions).

A DIFFERENT ROUTE: GO ON A FRESH JUICE CLEANSE!

Again, I recommend this for those who feel inspired to do it—rather than approaching it with a “I have to” attitude, as this may lead to more constriction and fighting ourselves.  My motto is, “be kind, but also challenge yourself compassionately ☺”

Many juiceries have cleanse packages, but they can be a bit pricey, and many of them include something like 6 juices per day, which is not necessary for everyone.  However, if a cleanse of this kind is quite new to your routine, 6 juices might suit your needs—after all, fasting to any degree, first challenges us mentally, and having juice frequently through the day might help us through the mental hurdle.  Don’t be afraid to try one day with more juices and another day with less—find what works for you that day.  Perhaps, you do 6 juices for 1 – 3 days, then switch to something as low as 3 juices diluted and spread throughout the day as you feel the body craving fuel.  But a word of caution with drinking juice, is that we may not be as prone to drink as much water, so do ensure that your water intake is sufficient.

3 days prior to the work, you may also be called to ADD an activated charcoal “lemonade”

However, it is also best if you eat the full day before and begin the morning of your ceremony with a moderately filling meal—both days to follow the dieta protocol.
